Bellingham will apply for Google Fiber for Community "

Google Fiber For CommunitiesSurvey

City of Bellingham officials are evaluating Google’s Fiber For Communities initiative, in consultation with other agencies, businesses and community partners.

Google recently announced plans to test ultra-high speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations across the country. Google officials have asked interested municipalities to provide information to help them decide where to build their network.

City of Bellingham officials are evaluating whether it will be worthwhile for our community to prepare a response, and identifying key issues Google is asking about, such as regulatory requirements, utility ownership, existing community service providers, housing profile and much more. Preparation of a response to Google's request will require a resource commitment by the City and others, as well as support from the community.

We want to hear from you before we decide. Please take  moment to fill out our short electronic survey by close of business Feb. 24, 2010. This information will be used to help decide our next steps, which will be announced here and to the local news media on Feb. 25.
