Drayton Harbor Days in Blaine, Washington August 1st and 2nd 2009Featuring the TALL SHIPS Lady Washington & Hawaiian Chieftain A celebration of maritime fun for landlubber’s everywhere Both Saturday and Sunday (August 12st and 2nd the Northwest Steam Society will have an array of Steam Boats docked for public viewing from 9-5 PM at 235 Marine Dr. Gate 2, Blaine Harbor. The steam boats will begin parading up and down the visitors dock waterway on Saturday at 12:15 and also at 3:00 PM.Piano Maestro Don Stagg, will be playing a Calliope (steam organ) near Gate #2, Blaine Harbor at intervals throughout both days. Downtown activities will begin at 10:00 am and include children’s games, a treasure hunt, arts & crafts fair, motorcycle show & shine, merchant’s sidewalk sale and Caribbean theme costume contest. The prestigious George Raft Race will commence at 11:00 am at the Blaine Harbor public boat launch ramp and will conclude at Gate #2. All are welcome to join in the raft race. Rafts need to be homemade out of recycled materials. The first place winner will take home for one year the prestigious George Raft Trophy. Drayton Harbor Maritime’s community sailing school will be holding its 2 nd annual West Marine community sailing regatta. Participants will be using the group’s 3-meter Clancy sailboats. The Clancy’s will sail around “Monkey Island” in the inner harbor at the Blaine Harbor Marina west of Gate 3 starting at 1:00 pm.
